Was Annette Funicello really that talented? Why didn’t she have a bigger career beyond the Beach Party movies?

Talented enough to get a huge contract deal with Disney as a teenager.

And she embraced her black hair, a rarity in Hollywood, where most actresses went blonde or lightened their hair considerably. It made her stand out in a crowd of pretty Hollywood starlets. As did her figure.

She had a successful movie and TV career. That takes talent. She was never going to win an Oscar for best actress, but most actors never did either. But she was pretty, shapely, and charismatic and this is a recipe for success in Hollywood.

I’m wondering about attachment and transference with the therapist and the idea of escape and fantasy? How much do you think your strong feelings, constant thoughts, desires to be with your therapist are a way to escape from your present life? I wonder if the transference serves another purpose than to show us our wounds and/or past experiences, but is a present coping strategy for managing what we don’t want to face (even if unconsciously) in the present—-current relationships, life circumstances, etc. Can anyone relate to this concept of escape in relation to their therapy relationship? How does this play out for you?
